What are electric bikes?

To put it simply, electric bikes, also commonly known as ebikes or e-bikes, are like traditional bicycles, but have a battery-powered motor. Electric bikes can help riders climb hills easier, ride at faster speeds, transport cargo and other essentials, or ride further distances without tiring quickly due to pedal-assist or throttle features.

Riding an electric bicycle is the same as riding a traditional bike. The main difference is having the option to receive different levels of powered assist from the motor to make pedaling easier, or rely solely on the throttle to propel the bike for you without needing to pedal.

Electric bicycles are typically categorized into three classes.

  • Class 1 ebikes offer pedal assist only. They reach a top speed of 20 MPH.
  • Class 2 ebikes offer both pedal assist and throttle, with both reaching a top speed of 20 MPH.
  • Class 3 ebikes offer both pedal assist and throttle. While pedal assist reaches a top speed of 28 MPH, throttle only reaches 20 MPH.

Aventon’s selection of electric bikes for sale are typically Class 2 electric bikes. Select Aventon models can be modified into Class 3 ebikes, whereas all Aventon ebikes can also operate as Class 1 ebikes with the throttle unplugged and removed.

While Aventon predominantly produces electric bikes for adults, US federal regulations list that riders who are 16+ are of legal age to ride an electric bike. When shopping for electric bikes for adults, young adults, or teens, it is always best to consult with your local regulations to determine the safe, legal, minimum riding age for ebikes.

Furthermore, there are areas, such as national parks and trails, that prohibit the use of Class 1, 2, or 3 ebikes. When looking at electric bikes for sale, it is important to know what your intended use case is and comply with your local and federal laws regarding the permittance of electric bikes in select areas.

Why should I look for e bikes for sale?

Ebikes are an effortless addition to your everyday life. Whether that’s helping you commute to work, run errands, become or stay active, or enjoy being in the outdoors, from RVing, camping, or offroading. Ebikes are great for increasing your daily or weekly movement and helping you to spend more time with loved ones, whether that’s riding with kids or grandparents. Ebikes are a fun, effortless way to discover more of what’s out there, get around town easily, find happiness in the little things, and reconnect with what makes you feel most alive.

What types of electric bikes are for sale?

At Aventon, we know that ebikes are not one-size-fits-all. Nor are their intended use cases. That’s why while all of our electric bikes can be used to get from one destination to another, they have their own unique features. Folding electric bikes are great for compact spaces or routine travelers. Fat tire, off-road ebikes offer versatility in terrain, with virtually no road off-limits, from sand to snow. Cruiser electric bikes combine comfort with speed while commuter electric bikes are the efficient choice for transporting. Meanwhile, urban ebikes are among the lightest weighing options on the market, perfect for zipping through city traffic.

How do I find an Aventon ebike for sale?
